Ever since I was a teenager, I knew that I wanted birds to be a part of my life. I had the luxury of being able to enjoy them on a personal level for several years now but as my professional career continued to develop, I quickly realized I wanted my feathered friends to be a part of my life on a professional level as well.

So I begin to think to myself, if I were to create a product, where would I start? There are many “problems” in the world that could be solved with technology, however if I was going to get something going to start solving them, I wanted to make sure I could do something I truly cared about. So I have to ask myself, what is something that I am truly passionate about..? As I think long and hard about this, I take a deep sigh and I look to the sky for some kind of idea or motivation and then all the sudden, there it is…

Darting through the sky, I see a pair of Red-Tailed Hawks flying over one of the buildings in downtown San Francisco with its lunch for the day; a pigeon in one of their talons. They quickly disappear out of my sight over the top of another building of downtown San Francisco.

It occurs to me that most everyone in my vicinity did not notice this amazing feat of nature, however if they did, their curiosities would be piqued. As an amateur birdwatcher, I know what that bird is, but I would conclude that many others do not. But really all it comes down to is to have a little curiosity and willingness to appreciate the natural world around us.

That is why I came up with (drumroll please…) “BluByrd!, an Interactive Birdwatching App”.

I have included a slidedeck of my final presentation in my General Assembly Product Management class. It contains the expected behavior of the app, some market research, as well as who my customer base would be.
